I Love Elvis

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

I've had a request from my sister who's a HUGE Elvis fan (more than me) to make some cards for her, so here's one of them. I downloaded the image from the internet cuz I just thought it was fun. I wonder if this is a real picture that someone took as they came across it in their travels or if it's just a computer made up thing. Hard to say, but in my dreamy unrealistic mind that's the story I've made up for it. I too have a very, very special place in my heart for Elvis, since I was born on the same day as he was. No, not the same year silly! I'm not that old! But I grew up listening to him and watching him on tv thanks to my mom and sister, so I come by it honestly. I even just had a new housekey made, and oh yes it is an Elvis key, I know you're jealous! (BTW - the inside message on this card says ....but I Love You More!!).

Anyhoo - off I go to get some things done tonite, (that's TCB in Elvis terms (taking care of business)) so have a great evening and I hope you noticed that I've posted 2 days in a row now! I should be back tomorrow with something, not sure what, but something fabulously spectacular I'm sure!!

Recipe: Stamp - Heart is from Made From Scratch. Ink is VersaColor - Cardinal. Red ribbon and a tiny silver heart brad. All pretty obvious I guess.

Inspiration Challenge 112

Monday, January 28, 2008

It's been awhile since I've done a challenge, so I thought I'd wing this one. It's got a hint of the art print in overall structure and layout, but I guess I mostly went with the colors. It has a contemporary feel to it, which I think is cool. Always fun to think out of the box on these things. I'm really just happy to be posting something. This working full time thing is really putting kinks into my cardmaking time, but what can you do? As far as that goes, it's a good job and they treat me good. I consider myself lucky to have it.

The good news that tickled me pink today is a message I received from someone that they want to include a link to one of my cards and my gallery!! Some days just knowing that someone else appreciates your work is all you need, you know?

Well it's kinda cold (high 50's and 60's) and rainy, rainy, rainy here in AZ. What's up with that? I know this is what winter is here, but my feet are going to be webbed pretty soon walking thru all of this water! (Sorry to complain about it to those of you dealing with snow and cold!)

Well I do hope to be able to post more than once a week, I'm working on other things now while I have the time so I really hope to be able to get back into a routine, don't think it will be an everyday thing yet, but you never know so stay close by and any kind of cheerng on is always apprecaited! Do take care out there! Peace out.

Recipe: Stamps - Big flower is from the Petal Prints set, small are from Carte Postale. Oh - and the stems are from All Wrapped Up. Paper is Sahara Sand and Flavia's Peaches and Pomegranates, along with off white of course. Ink is just good old Staz On Black (don't you love the smell of it?). I used some Stickles - Frosted Lace, and the font is Joey Tisoy(?).

Lucky Strike!!

Since when do you have to make reservations for bowling?! We decided we wanted to go Saturday nite, and since we have one next door in the shopping center, and we're able to walk there, that's just what we tried to do. When we got there, there were 3 active lanes, but we were told that they were "booked for the nite". We then started calling around, and about 4 phone calls later we found one, across town of course. So what was supposed to be a short trip across the parking lot, turned into a 20 minute drive. I'm happy to hear that this particular fun family pasttime is perhaps back again, or maybe it never stopped being popular and I'm just out of the loop I'm not sure. I'm not able to bowl, since my silly neck injury won't let me, but it sure was fun to watch everybody have fun anyway. I was tempted to try it, but I knew better I guess. And so this card is an inspiration about this story and the fact the it's getting to be love and hearts time soon. Of course everyday should be about love and hearts as far as I'm concerned, but since Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays, I'll use that as my excuse for the next couple of weeks. Call me a hopeless romantic!

Recipe: Stamp is from the Background Basics set. Paper is Black, off white and red cardstock. The red heart buttons are a Sizzix die cut. The bowling ball and pins are from the internet. Three small silver brads and black ribbon.

Hey there and Happy Monday!? Started a new job today and so I have a killer headache here tonite. Not to be unexpected for me I suppose. I think I've said before that it's a Monday - Thursday gig, so it shouldn't be too bad. Not sure I'll have a new card to post everyday but perhaps if I come up with something I want to share I'll throw it in here. I actually made this card over the weekend using some design sketches that I've had laying around but are really for scrapbook pages. I thought I could adapt some of them for cards, but some are just to big to do that. This one turned out ok I thought and these are some of my favorite colors together. The weather was actually chilly and windy here in Phoenix today. I know if you're somewhere that it's snowing all get out that you don't want to hear that, (another reason I no longer live in Colorado), and I thought it would warm up by the end of the day, but it never really did. Not sure what to wear here, and some people actually wear turtlenecks and hats and scarves and that truly cracks me up! Believe me, it's not THAT cold!! It's 8:00 already so I guess I'll watch some tv and hit the bed early. Take care y'all!! Luv ya!
Recipe: Stamp is from Pretty Petals and I also used the background Linen stamp for 2 of the small squares. Ink is Blue Bayou and Close to Cocoa. Scraps of paper, not sure the exact colors. Three clear rhinestones and a smidge of cocoa sheer ribbon.

Thoughts of You

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Todays card combines some stamps together as I'm trying to step out of the box so to speak as far as a box set is concerned and mix it up a little. I've had a good day, went on an interview first thing this morning, I was only there probably 15 minutes at the most, and they called an hour later and hired me, so I start on Monday. I will be working Monday thru Thursday initially as they are going thru a slow time with work right now, and 3 day weekends sound good to me! I'm glad to have found something, and have hopes that it will be a good fit for me. Have a great Thursday! (There's a new Grey's Anatomy on tonite - yeah!!)

Recipe: Stamps - Time Well Spent set and the Thoughts of You stamp is from Michael's $1 bin!! Paper is from the In Color set along with some off white. There are 3 tin rhinestones, one pink, one green and one clear and then 3 larger clear ones. Ink is Staz On Jet Black and distressing is done with Color Box Chalk in charcoal. I also used Pastels to color with the blender pens.

A New Journey

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

As I've talked about, I am beginning a new journey here in Phoenix and what better way to start than with a dragonfly of course! I just got both of these stamps at Michael's and have been itching to use them. This is the first card I've made at my new workstation, and I must still be missing a box somewhere because I still can't find some of my things. Hopefully I'll get everything just where it should be and I won't have to think about where it is first. As I mentioned earlier, I just recently got these stamps at Michael's, and they also have Joann's here, but unfortunately there is no Archiver's. If you frequent one, you know what I'm talking about and so I will miss it. Other than that the only thing I'm missing and definately craving is my favrite sub shop Jimmy John's, they don't have one here either. So I'll have to try and find a new one. That's it for now - take care!!

Recipe: Stylized Dragonfly stamp from Rubber Stampede, it also says delta creative on it and the For You flower stamp is from the $1 bin at Michael's. I used paper from Stampin' Up - the Rich Regals set, and scraps of off white and a little yellow. Also some sheer off white ribbon and a big old purple oval rhinestone. I colored with markers, faux stitched the bottom and used a corner rounder.

Hi everybody and Happy New Year and Happy Birthday (today) to me too!! Just wanted to write a quick note to let you know that I'm in Phoenix and getting settled in. My computer is running and I'm slowly getting all of my cardmaking "stuff" put away. Of course I'll probably move it a million and one times before it's where I feel comfortable, but I'm getting there. Moving is no fun in and of itself, but moving to another state - and I've done it a few times, is seriously crazy stuff. Good thing I'm organized or this could have made me crazier than I already am. But I'm happy I made the move, and even more happy since I've been hearing about all of the snow in Colorado! I won't miss that! Anyway, I hope to get to actually making some new cards this week, so hang in there and be patient with me, I have lots of ideas rolling around in my head that I hope to share with you.
